Fashion Law Conference: Fast Fashion and Transatlantic Perspectives

On November 7, the Fashion Law Conference took place at La Fondation des États-Unis in Paris, within the iconic Cité internationale universitaire. The event was co-organized by the Federal Bar Association (U.S.) and the French American Bar Association (France), with the support of the Paris Bar Association, AAPI, AIPPI, and the Harvard Fashion Law Association. This 2025 edition gathered lawyers, academics, and fashion professionals to discuss the major legal challenges shaping today’s fashion industry.

A Meeting Point Between Law, Innovation, and Fashion

The conference addressed key topics such as fast fashion, famous trademarks, and competition law in the fashion industry, offering a transatlantic perspective on how regulation, ethics, and creativity intersect in this fast-changing sector.

Moderator of the Fast Fashion Panel

I had the privilege of moderating the first panel, “Fast Fashion: A Comparative Analysis of the Regulatory Framework.” The discussion compared U.S. and EU approaches to a business model as dynamic as it is controversial.

Panelists explored labor and environmental concerns, intellectual property disputes, and the growing influence of artificial intelligence on design and trend creation. Beyond these challenges, we discussed the need for ethical accountability, regulatory alignment, and consumer transparency—themes that resonate deeply on both sides of the Atlantic.

Presenting the French American Bar Association

During the conference, I also had the opportunity to introduce the French American Bar Association (FABA), where I recently became Vice President. The association is entering a new chapter with a refreshed team and renewed goals. In the coming months, we will reopen memberships for 2026 and launch our new website, strengthening professional bridges between French and American legal communities.

Inspiring Conversations

Other panels offered further insights:

  • “The Power of Fame” explored how to prove and defend the reputation of famous trademarks, a critical issue in the fashion and luxury sectors.
  • “Market Power or Market Monopoly?” delved into antitrust implications of mergers and collaborations within an increasingly concentrated industry.

This year’s Fashion Law Conference highlighted how fashion law continues to evolve—at the intersection of law, ethics, technology, and creativity.
